Google docs is a free application of Google that is connected to the Google drive, Google docs generally provides the user with the skills like editing, grammar correcting, ability to create & to get collaborate with others on the web. Google docs is the place where you can access any document from anywhere.
Google docs is said to be a time-saving app that has many shortcuts for the content we want to write, there is text short cut for words or sentences that are regularly used.
How to use text shortcut in Google docs
- Browse for the Google Docs and open a new or existing document.
- You can see the menu bar on the top, click the Insert tab
- After clicking the Insert tab, click on the preferences
- As the preference tab is clicked, you will get preferences window open, make sure before entering anything the box next to “Automatic substitution” should be ticked.
Hyphens, dashes and em dashes are automatically created in the google docs documents which are its key features.
Now proceeding further, on the same preferences window, below the automation substitution you will get to see two text boxes, in which one is for ‘Replace’ & another one is with what it will be replaced ‘with’.
Replace and with option will be useful when you type wrong spelling and want to replace it with the correct one.
Auto substitution is the feature used for the auto-correction of words, that you might unintentionally misspell it & without giving the right click for an error in Docs’spellchecker.
The role of getting the results of this Replace to be work is the Replace field should have one word without any space. If there is a space between the words in the Replace field, Docs will not work on a short cut, but it will add it to the list. However, the “With” field does not have any rule you can write anything including multiple spaces & multiple words.
While using the text shortcut you have to be careful about the words that are regularly used should be no overlapped with the keywords, You have to place the special character alongside such as Brackets, Curly braces, colons, exclamation marks any many more things. This will keep your document save by any unwarranted substitution.
By clicking on the box left to the “Replace” field or by clicking the “X” to the right box besides the “With” field will delete the substitution and will disable it.
Click the “OK” button to save the changes & come back to the documents you will fill at the finishing of the substitution.
